International Relocation Guide
Visas and Documents When Moving Overseas
The level of complexity of International moving depends upon the kind of relocation that is to be done. For instance, in the past recent decades, professional relocations have become very common even fashionable in many fields of work. Although these transfers still represent a significant change in the lives of those being transferred and their families, the process is no doubt much simpler than many other types of relocations since almost the entire moving is taken care of by the hiring company. On the other hand, of the spectrum you may find a person who as an individual entity is trying to immigrate to a country, in which case he/she will have to look after every single step of the process by himself or with the aid of a lawyer. In between, you will find all kinds of relocations motives: student trips, vacations, grants, scholarships, sabbaticals, invited worker, professional immigration, immigrating artist, qualified worker immigration, and so on.
Even when the gamut of relocation status is so vast, one thing remains standard: the need for certain visas and documents in order to gain permission to enter and remain in the country of residence. Unless you count with a valid passport to enter the country you have chosen as your destination, you will have to do all the pertinent arrangements in order to be granted a valid entry visa. The requirements, classification and duration for entry visas will differ according to the reasons for your visit and your country of origin. Some countries will require no visas for tourist visitors of specific countries, but may require from the same citizen a student, working, or spouse visa. For accurate information about the requirements and documentation needed for your particular journey, contact either the Consulate or Embassy of the destination country you are planning on relocating to.
Other documentation that may be asked of you at the port of entrance to the country of destination is health records. Immunizations are at the top of the list and will be required time and time again during the first months of your relocation by more than just one institution. Schools, universities, colleges, health department, and the immigration department are just a few of the places where a full list of vaccinations will be under check before accepting you as a tourist, student, worker, or immigrant. Once more, the Embassy or Consulate of the destination country is your best point of contact and information about these matters.
Finally, among other documents that are generally requested at one point or another in many relocation cases are: marriage/divorce certificates, birth certificates, schooling and professional certifications, medical certificates, bank documents of different kinds, letters of recommendation, clergy documentation and letters of recommendations, working permits, and of course passports. Keep in mind that some times some of the required document will be in conflict with your home country’s legislations and/or laws so keep a positive approach and do not despair, everything will be all right in the end.
