Auto Transport Guide and Tips:
Preparing Your Vehicle for the Transport
Auto transport companies generally require the following preparation to the vehicle prior to pick-up:
1) Inspection of the vehicle. You will be required to sign a Bill of Lading and a Vehicle Condition Report a/k/a Original Inspection Report, both at the point of departure and arrival. This reports details the condition of the vehicle at the points of pick-up and arrival. It lists all scratches, dents, cracks to windows/mirrors/lights, and mileage on the vehicle. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU RETAIN A COPY OF THIS REPORT FOR YOUR RECORDS.
2) Cleaning the vehicle.
3) Removal of all personal items in the car and trunk. By law, the carrier may not accept a vehicle for transport that includes personal belongings and may incur fines for doing so.
4) Removal of hazardous materials. By law, the carrier may not accept a vehicle for transport that includes hazardous materials and may incur fines for doing so. .
5) Removal of car covers and spare tires. However, you are permitted to store a jack and spare tire in the vehicle.
6) Removal of roof racks any other removable items - including an EZ-Pass.
7) Preparation of a complete set of car keys for the driver.
8) Deactivation of alarm system(s).
9) Removal or closing of the car antenna.
The following are suggested preparation to the vehicle prior to pick-up:
1) Servicing of the vehicle.
2) Ensuring that the vehicle is in operating order. Transport companies may charge extra for moving an inoperable vehicle.
3) Do not have more than a half tank of gas in the vehicle.
