Mayne. However, most people believe the name derived as a reference to the fact
that the Pine Tree State is a mainland, as opposed to its many surrounding
islands. Maryland was Twenty-third state to enter the Union. With more than 30
state parks, 2,500 lakes, and 5,000 streams Maine’s tourism industry attracts
many year round. Thanks to its large forested area (about 89% of the state),
Maine is capable of turning out one of the world’s largest pulp-paper
production, accompanied by a significant wood product industry. Maine’s
agricultural contribution consists of, potatoes, poultry and eggs, sea food,
dairy products, vegetables and 98% of the total US low-bush cherries.
