The largest city between West Palm Beach and Pompano Beach Boca Raton is located in Palm Beach County, Florida. The city was incorporated in May 1925. Interestingly, the city was referred to as "Boca Ratones" in the 18^th century maps and wrongly got to be known, as a literal translation as ‘Rat’s Mouth’. The Spanish word boca, meaning mouth was used to describe an inlet in the Biscayne Bay area of Miami, while ratón ( which literally means mouse) was used by Spanish sailors to describe rocks that continuously gnawed at a ship's cable. Hence the city’s name was wrongly deciphered. It is now considered that the name was the result of an indigenous derivation.

According to history, the city was the home of Addison Mizner's Boca Raton Hotel. The "pink hotel" today is visible from miles away as a towering building on the Intra-coastal Waterway.

• Japanese farmers of the Yamato Colony converted the land west of the city into pineapple plantations beginning in 1904, which during WWII, was converted to a major training facility for B29 bombers.
• The Boca Raton Resort & Club Tower is the tallest building in Boca Raton at 300 ft with 28 floors.
• In the late 1960s, Boca Raton became the southern home to IBM.

Today, the Town Center Mall has become a major tourist attraction and the largest indoor mall in Palm Beach County.
