Auto Transport Coverage:
Auto Moving Insurance
While most transport companies are fully insured, the coverage will likely exclude loss or damage to personal items left in the vehicle, road damage, glass breakage and small dents or scratches to the vehicle, while in transit. You will need to be diligent and assess what type of coverage is being offered for the vehicle. For extra protection, you may choose to invest in supplemental insurance. Your personal auto insurance policy may also include coverage for transporting your vehicle. Similarly, your homeowner's insurance may cover loss/damage to personal items left in the vehicle.
In general, always obtain the insurance certificate from the moving company, Transport Company or agent of any of these companies who have been contracted to haul your vehicle. Read the policy carefully, to determine what is included/excluded in the coverage
Damage to Vehicle
In the event that there is damage to your vehicle, it is necessary that you itemize the damage on the original inspection report and ensure that you obtain the driver's signature on the amended report. You will then need to contact the transport company to work out compensation for the damage.
If the transport company disputes the damage claims or if any disagreement arises between you and the company, the best solution is to attempt to handle the matter directly with the company. If a mutual agreement is not possible, your next option is to file a claim with the Better Business Bureau in the city where the transport company is listed as doing business. The DOT may be useful if you have already gone to court and obtained a judgment against the company. More Moving Tips & Guide
